The CW's Batwoman is set to introduce a "whole new chapter" of heroes and villains.

The main baddie for the first season will be the menacingly named Alice (Rachel Skarsten), but during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday (July 20), it was announced a load more villains from the DC universe will feature throughout the season.

Speaking on the panel, the show's executive producer Caroline Dries said: "Because you've seen so many different versions of [Batman's villains], we're trying to find a different way in.

"We are not going to repeat villains from the Arrowverse; we're using a whole new chapter of villains and heroes."

One such character is Tommy Elliot, who eventually becomes the bandaged villain Hush – commonly known as one of Batman's adversaries.

"We're doing a deep dive into the DC universe," added Dries.

Batwoman herself, Ruby Rose, was unfortunately unable to attend Comic-Con, but for a good reason: she was too busy filming the show.

Addressing fans in an Instagram video, Rose said that she 1was required to work on a particularly "ambitious episode".

Also during the Batwoman panel, Dries announced that Burt Ward, who played Robin in the 1960s Batman TV series, will make an appearance in the Arrowverse's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' crossover.

"We've got a ton, a ton, a ton of characters coming into the five-part event," said Dries. "Burt Ward will be making an appearance.”

Batwoman will air on The CW in the US. UK broadcast details are yet to be announced.
