Stranger Things' Billy Hargrove will have a "redemptive ending" in the upcoming third season, according to actor Dacre Montgomery.

Billy was introduced during the sci-fi's sophomore entry, where he boasted some wretched qualities as the older step-brother of new girl Max Mayfield.

However, the new batch of episodes (set to stream on Netflix in less than week!) will see Billy promoted to a true agent of darkness.

Montgomery recently sat down with Digital Spy to talk about his character's season 3 arc, when we asked him if he'd been given a bigger role this time around.

"I can tease that I did indeed get a role that I think any creative would be hugely grateful to receive this season," he teased.

"I get a role that has a lot of darkness and depth, but I think has a really redemptive ending. Which I'm really happy about."

The actor then opened up about the darkness coursing through the third season.

"There's obviously a supernatural component, which I won't touch on too much to give it all away," he noted. "But I would just say that I got to delve deep into this space of making really unusual choices in my acting. That was really fun.

"Billy exists in this grey area, it's not quite black or white and I think the grey area is the funnest thing to play."

Stranger Things season 3 is released on July 4 on Netflix.
