Netflix's mind-warping drama What/If only dropped on the streaming platform last month, but the series' creator is already sharing his plans for a follow-up season.

And, if the series does get a season two renewal, it looks like we can expect it to be a little bit different, as creator Mike Kelley has revealed that he plans to make this an anthology series – with season two following a completely different trajectory to the first.

"My intention is for future seasons, assuming we get future seasons, to take place in a universe where the other story never existed," he told TVLine.

"So there would be no Anne Montgomery in the world of season 2," he added, referring to Renée Zellweger's character.

But don't worry – even though there'd be a complete change of characters, Kelley plans for the cast to stay the same in the style of American Horror Story: same actors, different roles.

"Assuming everyone's schedule lines up and they want to do it, my hope is to pull an American Horror Story and bring back the same actors to play different parts in each season," Kelley continued.

The first season of What/If ended with a conclusion that tied up the plot lines, but with a twist that also tied our brains up in knots – so there's no surprise that Kelley wants to continue with the whole what-the-hell-just-happened format of season one.

You can read more about that shock plot twist here – just be warned, there will be spoilers.

What/If is available to stream on Netflix now.
