Note: This article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3 'The Long Night'.

Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten is one of the stars of a new television series called Temple – and its first trailer has now dropped.

The Dutch actress played the Red Woman (Melisandre) in HBO's fantasy series, recently providing key assistance to the northern armies in their victory against the Night King's undead horde.

Carice's other screen work remains relatively unknown to the average viewer though, so Temple's first trailer offers something a bit different – instead of just blazing sorcery and sacrifices.

In this project, she stars alongside Shazam's Mark Strong – and their characters share a pretty tangled history.

The dark new thriller sees Daniel and Anna (played by Mark and Carice) team up together after Daniel's wife develops a life-threatening illness. Once conventional medical options become redundant, the pair – alongside Daniel Mays' "resourceful misfit" Lee – decide to start a literal 'underground' clinic within the vast network of tunnels beneath London's Temple tube station.

"The s**t we do for love, eh?" Lee remarks in the trailer, which might be a cheeky callback to Jaime Lannister's famous line from Thrones' first ever episode – but maybe we're just clutching at straws?

Meanwhile, Carice recently admitted she expected Melisandre to live a little longer in the eighth and final season of Thrones.

She was pleased with her character's heroic actions preceding her death, though.

Temple is scheduled to air on Sky One and streaming service NOW TV this autumn.
