Note: This article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3 'The Long Night'

Game of Thrones season 8's dramatic Battle of Winterfell episode may be a week old now, but we're still dissecting the fallout from THAT moment.

When Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) jumped in at the 11th hour to kill the Night King with a Valyrian Steel dagger, she also brought an end to the White Walkers and their seemingly unstoppable Army of the Dead.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss refused to rule out a shock return for the icy villains. Wait, what?

Trying to extract some spoilers, host Jimmy Kimmel asked the pair: "Are we for sure done with the White Walkers?"

Benioff and Weiss looked at each other, before Benioff replied: "Yeah, we're not going to answer that."

So could we be looking at the unlikeliest comeback since Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) triumphant return from the dead in season 6?

Well, the creators were similarly evasive to all of Kimmel's questions – including whether Bran knew Arya would kill the Night King all along, and whether anyone is even going to take the Iron Throne at the end of the series – so read into that what you will.

The actor who plays the Night King has been full of praise for the way he (seemingly) exited the show, and the choice of character who struck the killer blow.

"I think it was a good decision," Vladimír Furdík explained. "Because nobody's waiting so much for [Arya to kill the Night King], not many people knew it would happen.

"Maybe 10 minutes before... we see Jon Snow and other actors, but we don't know where [Arya] is. Maybe somebody can predict it, but I think it was a good decision."

For now at least, it looks like the action is switching to King's Landing, as the survivors of the Long Night turn their attentions to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).
