The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira has spoken about the show ahead of her exit as Michonne next season.
In February, it was reported the star would only return for a small number of episodes. And although she didn't directly address her departure, she did have very high praise for the cast and crew during an interview with Net-A-Porter's digital magazine PorterEdit.
"We start shooting [season 10] soon, so I'll have to start fitting in my workouts," she said.
"I have a really beautiful family in The Walking Dead. We have pot luck dinners. We go to each other's homes. We check in with each other."
Gurira also said she's in regular contact with former showrunner (now the franchise's chief content officer) Scott Gimple. He's been giving her advice, as the star is adapting Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel Americanah for TV with Lupita Nyong'o.
"I also talk a lot to my showrunner Scott Gimple, who is kind of my 'Batphone' as I navigate running a writer's room," she explained.

Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang previously teased a "significant" and "meaty" storyline for Michonne in season 10.
"We want to continue having her reflect on the ways to handle leadership in this world," she said earlier this month. "What legacy is she going to leave behind for the other leaders and for her family?"
