It's taken a very long time, but Mad About You is definitely coming back!

Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt were originally in talks to bring back the 12-time Primetime Emmy Award winner for all-new episodes back in December 2017, but it never quite got off the ground at the time.

But negotiations apparently heated up again recently, because Deadline is reporting both Reiser and Hunt have just signed up to reprise their roles as Paul and Jamie Buchman for the Spectrum Originals cable service in the US.

"We are so excited to finally be doing this and thrilled to have [producer] Peter Tolan as our fearless captain,” Reiser and Hunt said on Wednesday (March 6). “We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show – as soon as we can remember what’s funny about being older. It’s going to be great!”

Mad About You will premiere its new episodes later this year on Spectrum, with Helen Hunt signed up to direct the pilot in addition to starring.

It's somewhat surprising that it's taken this long for the Mad About You revival to come together, since some of its fellow NBC Must See TV comedies from the 1990s are already in various stages of revival.

What to Read Next

Of course, Will & Grace has recently wrapped its second new season on NBC (with a third on the way), and Kelsey Grammer recently confirmed he's in talks to bring back Frasier, as well.

Sadly, that Friends reunion series is probably never going to happen but the Mad About You revival might actually offer a way to see one of the recurring characters from Friends once again.

The two shows are actually linked through Lisa Kudrow. Her ditsy waitress Ursula on Mad About You was eventually revealed to be the sister of Phoebe from Friends.

Is it too much to ask for a double Kudrow cameo?

The new Mad About You doesn't yet have a channel attached in the UK.
