When Legion's Professor X finally shows up in the series, fans might not actually recognise him.

The leader of the X-Men will finally make his appearance in the trippy series for its third season, played by former Game of Thrones and Doctor Who actor Harry Lloyd alongside Mr. Robot's Stephanie Corneliussen as David's mother Gabrielle Haller.

Although Professor Charles Xavier is traditionally depicted as bald, Lloyd revealed to Entertainment Weekly that his version will have a very different appearance.

"Thankfully, there’s no shaving required. As of yet," he said. "I haven’t seen all the scripts."

This might indicate he might be appearing in flashback sequences showing Professor X's previous battles with David's enemy the Shadow King - although it's worth pointing out that a season 1 episode saw a visualisation of such a clash, with Xavier's appearance being notably bald-headed.

Then again, that same scene features David's own uncertainty as to why he's picturing his father in such a way, and he's not known for being the most reliable.

Lloyd also teased how the previous live-action Professor X actors are influencing his portrayal of the telekinetic mutant in Legion.

“Over Christmas, I watched all of the X-Men films with McAvoy and Stewart, and then I watched the two seasons of Legion,” he said. “It’s good to be aware of [the films] but also it’s a completely different universe.

"And actually, I have a lot of freedom and I think I’m encouraged to do my own thing. I went back to the comics and I learned all about the original story and saw what [the producers] were using and what they were gonna throw away.

"Legion is incredibly irreverent and beautifully surreal. I felt my main job was to have some fun with it and tell this crazy story.”

Legion will return this June on FX in the US. In the UK, it airs on FOX – and is also available via NOW TV.
