The Punisher was previously included in a sizzle reel video for Netflix's upcoming releases in January, and while that video soon disappeared, one of the streaming service's Twitter accounts then included it among its list of January film releases – sparking speculation that the show would be back imminently.

And a previous teaser trailer for the show featured Frank Castle burning the pardon he received last season, suggesting that he'll be going back to his old ways.

Along with John Bernthal's titular anti-hero, the second season of the show has rounded up two former DC TV stars: Smallville's Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent) and Supergirl's Floriana Lima (Maggie Sawyer).

Season two will see Frank Castle face off against the deadly Jigsaw. However, showrunner Steve Lightfoot has said that he also likes villains Barracuda and O'Brien, so maybe they will be the main villains?

Fans will be wondering if this is the last season of the show on Netflix, seeing as how the streaming service has taken the axe to a number of Marvel shows over the last year.

The assumption is that the news will come after the upcoming season drops.

It has been reported the Marvel shows that Netflix axes have two-year clauses stopping the shows, or characters, appearing in any other TV shows or movies.

Could that happen here too?

The Punisher season 2 comes to Netflix on Friday, January 18.
