Netflix and Marvel Television have opted to cancel all scheduled promotion of their Punisher series at New York Comic Con and Nuit Noire in Paris this weekend.
The ultra-violent Daredevil spin-off about a one-man militia clashes with the current mood of the US, following the deaths of 58 and more than 530 injuries in the deadliest mass shooting in US history last weekend in Las Vegas.
So as not to offend in the wake of such a tragedy, Netflix and Marvel TV released a joint statement on Wednesday (October 4) confirming that they had cancelled their Saturday panel at the pop culture convention.
That panel was going to be simulcast at the Nuit Noire event in the French capital along with a screening of the first two episodes.
Their statement read: "We are stunned and saddened by this week's senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn't be appropriate for Marvel's The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy."
Trailers for the upcoming Marvel series have touted The Punisher as the most violent of the interconnected Netflix shows, since it centres on Frank Castle's (Jon Bernthal) merciless war on the New York underworld.
