When he's not blasting away crooks with his machine guns, Marvel's Punisher fancies a bit of manscaping.

After sporting the hobo chic aesthetic - beard and all - when filming commenced on Netflix's Daredevil spinoff earlier in October, star Jon Bernthal finally dropped by the barber shop to rid himself of his lion's mane. Check out the before and after below:

It's still not quite the clean-cut Frank Castle we're used to, but he's just one razor away from striking fear in every criminal's heart all over again.

Marvel's The Punisher presumably picks up with Frank Castle on the run from the law, still determined to bring his ruthless form of justice to all of New York's crime lords.

Jon Bernthal will reunite on the series with Daredevil co-star Deborah Ann Woll, who returns as idealistic young legal assistant (and Frank Castle's only friend) Karen Page.

Newcomers include Ben Barnes as Punisher's old friend Billy Russo. Just don't expect a buddy comedy since Billy is actually the civilian identity of ruthless Marvel Comics baddie Jigsaw.

Before Netflix greenlit The Punisher earlier this year, Bernthal was already hyping his vision for the most brutal Marvel TV series of all-time.

"For me, it's not a question of what they want to do with a character, it's more, how are they going to do it, and who's going to be the one to do it," he explained.

"This character is in my bones now, he's in my blood. If they want to go forward in any way, for me it's just really going to be about making sure we do it in a way that's raw and intense.

"I want to push the envelope. I wanna alienate more of the audience and try to bring them back."

Marvel's The Punisher will premiere on Netflix in 2017. Watch the first teaser below:
