Greta Gerwig has promised that her How I Met Your Mother spinoff will stay true to the spirit of the original show.
Gerwig is starring and producing the upcoming female-centric How I Met Your Dad.
The actress recently told E! News that How I Met Your Dad will share thematic elements with its predecessor.
"I've been a fan of this show since really early on," the actress-producer said. "I've seen every episode."
She added of the spinoff: "It's funny. It shares the heart and soul with the original show, so it has the sweetness and the funniness."
Gerwig added that she has received the full support of the How I Met Your Mother cast.

"They're so nice! I went and I hung out with all the cast and they were like, 'If you can be part of this world, it's crazy fun'," she disclosed.
"They told me they believed in me, and it was really sweet."
She will be joined in How I Met Your Dad by Krysta Rodriguez and Drew Travers.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Eliza Dushku has also been linked to a role in the series.
