It's not the first time Piers Morgan has been made to look silly on TV, but it's definitely one of the most satisfying.

A staunch critic of ITV2 reality show Love Island, Morgan has spent the past few seasons lambasting the hit programme and even called the contestants the "stupidest people in the world".

It's safe to say he's not a fan.

However, back in 2017 he interviewed narrator Iain Stirling on Good Morning Britain and predicted that none of the couples in that series' villa would still be together within a year.

Desperate to prove him wrong, Stirling bet Morgan £100 that at least one of the pairs would still be doing bits by then.

As usual, Piers was wrong, and today (September 10) he was forced to hand over the money to charity live on his ITV chat show.

"[Iain] is here to settle a Love Island bet that he made with Piers, who said no-one ever stays together after Love Island," began co-host Susanna Reid.

The show then gave a little recap of the original moment from July last year, where Piers proposed that "absolutely none of these wretched little specimens will be with each other within a calendar year of today".

Well, Piers, it looks like you've overplayed your psychic abilities this time, as Iain continued: "Jamie [Jewitt] and Camilla [Thurlow] from the final are still very much together and very much in love."

As a "man who honours his bets", Morgan handed over the £100 cheque to Iain made out from the Bank of Piers.

The 53-year-old couldn't help trying to remind everyone who's boss though, quipping: "Here we are, from the bank of Piers Morgan, £100. Or as I like to call it, 20 seconds' work."

Touché.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am.
