Keen runners on social media have been uploading posts about running 3.7 miles, and there's a very moving reason behind it.

You might remember hearing about the death of Matt Campbell, the 29-year-old former MasterChef: The Professionals contestant who collapsed while running the London Marathon on April 22.

Despite being seemingly fit and healthy, having run several marathons before in memory of his late father who passed away suddenly in 2016, Matt suffered a heart attack at the 22.5-mile mark. He was taken to hospital but tragically died.

The chef, from Kendal in Cumbria, had been raising money for the Brathay Trust, an organisation which strives to improve the life chances of children, young people and families.

Matt had hoped to raise £2,500 by completing the London Marathon, but following the news of his death, more and more donations rolled in and the total currently stands at more than £319,000.

In memory of Matt, hundreds of people gathered in Shadwell over the weekend – the point in the course where he died – to finish the race for him (3.7 miles in distance).

Thousands more joined in all across the country, posting their 3.7-mile run online with the hashtags #FinishForMatt, #MilesForMatt and #ThreePointSeven.

And some of the messages people included in their social media posts are incredibly emotional:

Matt's story has clearly made an impact on a lot of people, so here's hoping his legacy will continue to raise money for charity and encourage others to get out there and run.
