Home and Away is celebrating its 30th anniversary this week in the UK.

To mark the milestone, Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, and Orpheus Pledger, who plays Mason Morgan, appeared on Good Morning Britain today (March 27).

While introducing the actors, Susanna Reid told viewers: "I guarantee that as soon as I say the words Home and Away you will have the theme tune in your head for the rest of the day."

At that point, Richard Madeley started to sing the Neighbours theme tune to the Australian stars, causing his co-host to look painfully awkward.

Luckily, both Ray and Orpheus saw the funny side as they cracked on with the interview.

Ray's character Alf is, of course, Summer Bay's longest-serving resident, having been on the soap since it started three decades ago.

Opening up about the day he got the part, the actor said: "My agent called and said they want you to do a pilot when I had a few weeks free between this and that. So I did the pilot never thinking it would get a series but about three weeks later, I got a call saying they were going to do a series with that thing.

"I thought, 'You beauty! There's three months' work right there, that will be good' – well, I got the three part right!"

Richard then asked his guests whether they were ever afraid about getting the axe from the soap, especially given their dramatic storylines this week.

"Well, normally, they talk to you before," explained Ray. "It's usually about six months because the storylines are that far ahead."

Orpheus – who has "the best name of the week", according to Richard – went on to admit that he sees his future in films rather than soaps.

The rising star admitted that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Chris Hemsworth and crack America.

He said: "My heart has always been set on film. My dream has been to win an Oscar ever since I was 7 years old. I look at the recent form of other people who have gone on to do amazing things and it fills hope and dreams in me."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am.
