The BBC's new talent show Let It Shine is already embracing its Saturday night TV cheesiness, and to be honest, it's actually pretty brilliant (despite what will.i.am says).

And now to help build excitement for Let It Shine's first episode tonight (January 7), the show has released its Broadway-inspired opening number, complete with backing dancers, an orchestra, choreographed dance routines... and Gary Barlow in the shower.

Kicking off with Gary in bed going through his morning routine, the lyric video tracks Gary's journey from guy-in-the-shower singing to his shampoo and flannel through his talent show journey, from audition to stardom.

There's even time to stop and pose with some That That lookalikes wearing those leather outfits too.

And before you say that it's all too cheesy and these shows are all the same, enter hosts Mel Giedroyc and Graham Norton with their own song and dance number defending the very essence of a talent show:

"Now we all have to face that some people get sniffy about talent programmes like these," Mel sings, "but look back history these things are practically old as the birds and the bees.

"I mean those gladiators who fought to the death in the glory of Rome's golden ages, what is that if it's not a contestant show just a rather brutal set of knockout stages?"

Well, you can't argue with that.

Of course, the musical opening also has a big ol' razzle-dazzle finish, as good old Gary takes to the Let it Shine stage with backing dancers performing high kicks while wearing top hats and canes, with confetti streaming down because that's show business.

And just like the overall nature of the show, it's not afraid to take the mick out of itself either.

"You could be the person born to play this part," Gary finishes. "Hey, and if it doesn't work out then don't worry 'cos they'll find somebody else!"

Brutal, but also probably true.

And we weren't the only ones loving Gary's song and dance number either, as the wonderful sequence had a lot of you talking - and swooning - on Twitter too:

Let It Shine airs on BBC One.
