Well, that's one way to put an end to the enduring Saturday night ratings battle that is Strictly Come Dancing vs The X Factor.

Speaking on the red carpet at the House of Fraser British Academy Television Awards 2016, Craig Revel Horwood pitched Simon Cowell as a potential contestant on the next series of Strictly, and we have to say, that sounds incredible.

"I think he'd be great," Horwood added. "Well, if he wants to hang his X Factor shoes up and put some dancing ones on, that'd be rather nice, wouldn't it? And I think people at home would want to see it as well."

That we would, Craig. That we would.

Not to mention it would also go a long way towards settling the X Factor and Strictly showdown every Saturday night, not that the Strictly judge has much time for the whole debate.

"There's never really been any competition," he said. "How can there be when one's a wannabe programme and one the celebrities are already celebrities?"

Still, we're in for another exciting series of dancing this year, according to the judge, so expect the pot to be stirred up a bit with new dancers and all-new elements when the show returns in the autumn.

The BAFTA TV Awards 2016 were hosted by Graham Norton, and held at the Royal Festival Hall on London's Southbank on Sunday, May 8.
