Strictly Come Dancing contestant Wynne Evans has addressed the much-discussed moment that happened with Katya Jones over the weekend.

The singer and Go Compare advert actor was seen with his hand on Katya's waist, which she quickly removed, and there was also further scrutiny from viewers when Katya ignored Wynne's attempt at a high five.

Both of their names trended on social media, with speculation from viewers that Katya was uncomfortable. She's since denied feeling "uncomfortable or offended in any way".

On the BBC's Radio Wales Breakfast Show today (October 14), shortly before hosting his own show, Wynne said: "Basically, I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the past day.

"It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close. We're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke. It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK?

"We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted and everything's on Katya's socials. She's talked about it. She's explained that it was a joke. She wasn't offended in the least, she doesn't feel uncomfortable.

"You know, we've got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I'm sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke. And that's all there is. There is no real story, really. I feel weird apologising because I feel like I've not really done anything."

An initial video featuring both of them referred to the moment during the same broadcast in which Katya had refused to high-five Wynne, while a later video featured Katya calling the "hand incident" a "silly joke".

"The idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is complete nonsense. It's actually absurd," she said.

On the radio show, Wynne added that he doesn't want the moment to cloud the rest of his Strictly experience, stating: "I'm absolutely still up for it. I'm having the best time of my life. I just don't want this to be the bit that people remember."

A BBC News article about Wynne and Katya cites a source as stating that a welfare officer "checked in on the pair and there are no further actions planned".

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
