Former The One Show host Matt Baker has announced his next TV role.

The presenter is set to front a new Channel 4 series, titled Baker's Britain, which will explore the lives of rural communities in the UK (via The Mirror).

The four-episode series is being made by Baker's production company Big Circus Media, which he shares with former One Show executive producer Gareth Collett.

"Matt will join those farming innovatively and discover the remarkable people caring for native wildlife or preserving the countryside for future generations," reads a statement from the production company.

Baker also shared his excitement at the new series, saying: "This new series encompasses everything we love as a production company celebrating the people who make Britain great.

"We look forward to filming in all four nations, continuing our successful relationship with Deborah Dunnett [Channel 4's commissioning editor] and Channel 4."

The news comes after Baker opened up about his departure from The One Show in 2020, after nine years on the green sofa.

Speaking to Gabby Logan on her podcast The Mid Point, the presenter reflected on his experience on the BBC chat show, saying: "It was part of me saying, 'Look, was this ever a goal?' and, 'What are you actually working towards?'"

He continued: "You think to yourself, I'm doing this chat show at seven o'clock on BBC One, does the goal then become, I'm just going to this forever? What is the point of continuing with something that you've done for nine years?

"And then I thought, 'I'm just going to [leave]. I'm just going to go because if I don't, I will probably be here forever.'"

The One Show airs Mondays through Fridays at 7pm on BBC One.
