Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway has revealed the special way the family welcomed in a important milestone this weekend.

Garraway's daughter and eldest child Darcey turned 18 on Sunday (March 10), with loved ones coming together to mark her adult birthday.

Sharing pictures from the special day with her followers on Instagram, Kate revealed that her daughter didn't initially want to mark the day, with it falling so soon after her dad's death in January.

However, friends and family rallied to throw a party for the teen, with Kate explaining it would have been exactly what Derek 'would have wanted'.

"I knew her dad would want the day to be marked and special though, so I sent up a bat signal to @myleeneklass who rallied the most amazing gang of #warriorwomen & #warriormen."

Kate's fellow Smooth Radio colleague Myleene Klass helped pull a last-minute lunch together, with Klass and her husband Simon Motson spotted in the Instagram video from the day putting up decorations.

Decorations included photos of Darcey with her late dad and the family, plus pink and white balloons and a gold sequin backdrop with a neon light which read "Let's Party".

Kate called the wall decor "the best teen Instagram backdrop ever!!" in her caption.

Fans also caught a glimpse of Darcey's cake, a tiered white and pink tower which the mum-of-two said "took Darcey's breath away". Guests also enjoyed "the most gorgeous brownies" from events company Mystical Fairies.

In the post's comments section, Klass said: "We did it!!! A day to remember surrounded by those you love and who love you. xxx".

Kate's husband Derek passed away in early January, with the presenter announcing the news on Instagram, saying he passed after being "critically ill following a cardiac arrest in early December which, because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications".

Good Morning Britain airs on weekday mornings on ITV.
