James 'Arg' Argent has revealed that he went through a "dark period" on The Only Way is Essex.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the 25-year-old singer and reality TV star said that he struggled on the show after breaking up with former girlfriend Lydia Bright.
"There was a bit of a dark period when I first broke up with Lydia, because I felt like I was arguing with everyone and I was really angry, bitter and hurt," he told DS.
"I could't get over the fact I'd lost Lydia, then as soon as she left the show it was like a whole weight was taken off my shoulders. Nothing to worry about, constant banter, constant laughs and I was my old self again."
The original cast member also revealed that other stars of the ITV2 structured-reality programme are not always welcoming towards new faces on the show.
"'Some of the cast get a bit jealous and they feel threatened, but I welcome new cast members with open arms because there's never going to be another Arg," he said.

"I'm quite warm to new cast members - they'll always say that I'm one of the friendliest and bubbliest because I make an effort to make sure they feel welcomed."
On continuing to star in the BAFTA Award-winning show, Argent said that he has no plans to leave, stating: "I'm here to stay".
He added: "Not everyone could put their personal lives out there - you have to be strong and thick-skinned to do that."
