The Traitors star Kieran Tompsett has responded to claims that he cheated following the shocking twist in the final episode of the show.

Speaking to the Daily Star, he revealed that his "parting gift" to Wilf was his final opportunity to "say something".

This week, in the final episode of the BBC reality show, Kieran voted for Wilf during the last roundtable of the series, dramatically declaring his vote as a "parting gift" because he felt like he had been thrown under the bus by his fellow contestant.

"I had to pick a well-timed couple of words to plant a seed and once they said 'You need to cast your vote’, I thought 'This is my opportunity to say something within the boundaries of the game and see if it will plant a seed',” he said.

"It came to me before voting and thank god it did," Kieran added, standing by his decision.

As fans accused him of cheating during the final episode, Kieran explained what actually went down during that moment and provided clarity over how the show works.

"You’re not allowed to directly accuse a Traitor, but it's the same as Wilf voting for Amanda and Alyssa. A lot of people saying ‘Kieran’s cheated’ but I played within the rules and I was allowed to cast my vote,” he explained.

In the end, none of that mattered because Faithfuls Meryl, Hannah and Aaron took home the £100,000 prize fund, which Kieran admits left him feeling “gutted” because he believed he had a pretty good chance of winning.

"I was starting to be a good Faithful, my name was never mentioned on the roundtable and I was playing a good game. I was gutted because I thought I had a really good chance,” he said.

The Traitors airs on BBC One and is available to catch up on via BBC iPlayer.
