Top Gear star Freddie Flintoff has been hospitalised after an on-set accident.

A BBC spokesperson has confirmed to The Sun that Flintoff had been transported to a local hospital for observation on Monday (December 12) after being involved in a car crash while filming the show.

The incident occurred at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome where Flintoff was also shooting scenes for the new Top Gear series with Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness.

This is not the first on-set accident for the former cricket ace, with an alarming incident occurring in February 2019 when he crashed out while driving through Mansfield town centre.

Nobody was injured in that situation, but an ambulance was deployed later that year when Freddie overshot the runway while driving a super-powered Time Bandit at Elvington Airfield.

At the time, he insisted he was "absolutely fine and was back filming" the following day, adding: "I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag races but on this occasion I went a few lengths too far."

Freddie has yet to comment on this latest on-set incident. Along with Take Me Out host Paddy, he joined Top Gear in its 27th series as a replacement for former Friends star Matt LeBlanc.

Top Gear continues on BBC One on Sunday with an episode featuring the best family cars and a delivery driver challenge.
