2022's edition of Love Island has officially drawn to a close, with Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu announced as the winning couple.

Previously, the show did include an extra moment of tension wherein the pair would pick an envelope each and the person with the envelope with £50,000 in would get to choose whether to split the money between them or steal it entirely for themselves. This has been axed, however, so Davide and Ekin-Su instead take home £25,000 each.

The official Love Island Twitter account posted their congratulations to the winning couple, writing: "One Italian stallion, one Turkish delight, so many unforgettable moments… Ekin-Su and Davide are your #LoveIsland 2022 winners!"

Elsewhere, Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page were announced in fourth place, Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope finished in third place, and Gemma Owen and Luca Bish in second place.

Previously, Paige Thorne and Adam Collard just missed out on a place in the final after receiving the least amount of public votes in Sunday's episode. The Monday night final featured the Islanders performing choreographed dance routines together after a professional salsa lesson.

The villa was also transformed into a summer ball. As each couple donned their best tuxes and dresses, each partner read out touching letters of love to their significant others.

Dami's letter, in particular, proved to be emotional as he even had to pause and collect himself to stop from tearing up as he read his vows to Indiyah. Meanwhile, Ekin-Su said her journey in the villa with Davide had been "one hell of a ride".

"They say Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were we," Ekin-Su said, before declaring they were "soul mates".

The finale also featured a montage of celebrities far and wide who had sent in clips expressing their congratulations to the Islanders ahead of the announcement, from Sam Thompson to will.i.am.

Davide and Ekin-Su are now the eighth couple to win Love Island. The show will return in the winter where the drama will start all over again.

Love Island airs on ITV2 and is available via catch up on ITV Hub and Britbox.
