Another surprise recoupling on tonight's (June 29) episode of Love Island saw an awkward love triangle emerge and two old flames reuniting.

It was the girls' time to shine as they were given the choice on who to pick – however the timing caught some of the contestants off-guard, leaving them with a tough decision.

After being rejected by Andrew, Danica decided to approach Jay and let him know her interest.

"If I'm honest, you were in my top three when I first came in, lookswise, so it's not like I'd be completely closed off to being in a couple with yourself. I think it's important for me to let you know that you're somebody that I would consider," she said.

Unfortunately for Danica, however, Jay didn't feel the same way, telling her he believed he had more romantic potential with Antigoni, who was closer to him in age.

With the recoupling looming, it wasn't only Danica with a tough decision to make. Ekin-Su was left unsure about her feelings towards Jay, Davide and Charlie. She confided in Gemma, asking her whether she thought Davide was still interested in her .

"I think he is but it will be a longer process, there still definitely is chemistry. Everyone can see it," Gemma replied.

The recoupling started smoothly with Gemma, Indiyah, Tasha and Paige all deciding to stick in their couples with Luca, Dami, Andrew and Jacques respectively.

After spending most of the day mulling her decision over, Ekin-Su decided to go with her gut, choosing to steal Davide from Antigoni.

"I didn't know whether to play it safe or take a risk. I personally would like to give this person a chance and I'm hoping he would too," she said.

Danica was next, surprising everyone by deciding to couple up with Jay, despite him rejecting her earlier.

As the final girl, an unimpressed Antigoni was left to chose Charlie – who is still yet to find a spark with someone.

After the recoupling finished, the atmosphere remained frosty in the villa, with Antigoni left frustrated that her attempts to get to know Davide and Jay were derailed.

Danica was also left surprised by the reactions to her choice. "Have I missed something?" she questioned in the beach hut as Jay insisted to the boys that he wasn't romantically interested in her.

Antigoni later reassured Danica, saying she had no harsh feelings towards her, despite the awkward situation, "I admire her bravery and approach to things," she later reflected.

Meanwhile, Davide and Ekin-Su spoke about their feelings. Despite acknowledging he was happy to have been chosen by Ekin-Su, Davide insisted he needed to see a change in her behaviour.

Could there be another chance for the will they/won't they couple? Fans on Twitter made their opinions known.

Love Island airs on ITV2 and is available via catch up on ITV Hub and Britbox.
