Ekin-Su's hopes that her "chemistry" with Jay might lead to a possible happy-ever-after went up in flames during tonight's episode (June 23) of Love Island. However, this time, fans were on her side.
A brief conversation between the pair that had Jay thinking he had the all-clear to pursue things with Paige, instead ended up upsetting both girls.
A happy Jay was seen chatting with Jacques during the episode, telling him that Ekin-Su couldn't have taken the news "any better", and proceeding to ask for his blessing.

Yet, Jacques' green light, despite coming from a place of confidence ("I don't got nothing to worry about"), only succeeded in bringing Paige to tears.
The islander was later seen crying to Tasha and Antigoni. Despite the new girl's encouraging words that Jacques had just been asking her to consciously choose him, Paige remained inconsolable.

"Yes, I can have a conversation with Jay, but my mind's not in it. My mind's on [Jacques]," she said in tears.
As for Jay, he was soon approached by a storming Ekin-Su. Visibly upset, the fiery blonde accused him of being "safe" at the coupling with her, because he knew that she'd pick him.

"You could have gotten to know Paige from day dot. And now you wanted to get Paige – funny that, isn't it?" she said.
"Why would you open up to me? Why would you tell me things like... all these cute things so my head wouldn't turn. Do you know how muggy that is?"
Astounded by the rant, Jay was speechless for a few seconds before attempting to defend himself.
But in the end, what it came down to for him was that "there's romantic connection and physical attraction between us but the more I got to know you... I just realised that actually maybe we're not personality compatible."
However, while the guys were on Jay's side, he did not win over Love Island's public on this one, who instead mostly rallied behind Ekin-Su.

Luckily for Ekin-Su, new guy Charlie might be interested to take up Jay's place.
"I'm not going to give up until I find the guy that suits me," she said later on, before embarking on a date with him that involved a hot tub and lots of bubbles.
Will Charlie help heal Ekin-Su's broken heart?
Love Island airs on ITV2 and is available via catch up on ITV Hub and Britbox.
