The Chase's titular Chasers are known for being no-nonsense and with a list of put-downs longer than the world's motorways put together, but Paul Sinha has rubbished a report claiming them to be difficult backstage.

The doctor-turned-comedian-turned-quizzer-turned-TV host, also known as The Sinnerman, hit out at a tabloid report about himself and fellow Chaser, Mark 'The Beast' Labbett.

"There is a story online about The Beast and I being prone to tantrums on The Chase over of all things, fashion," he wrote in a series of posts on Twitter. "Apparently we 'insist' on Savile Row suits and get fiery if they don't fit. A whole story based on an insider.

"I have no idea where any of my suits came from. I cheerfully wear anything I'm given, and if I think I've put on weight this is relayed well in advance. The only time in my life I have been anywhere [near] Savile Row is for TV Showdown. From where does this drivel arise?

"It shouldn't matter, it's just nonsense. But when you spend your TV career being an obliging yes man with no demands, who just gets on with doing what he's told, it is just so odd to read... I have literally never thrown a fashion-based strop in my life."

Fans sent Paul messages of support in the replies, while Pointless and House of Games' Richard Osman replied with: "As someone with a dressing room on the same corridor I can confirm it's not exactly The Devil Wears Prada."

Last year, Paul opened up about how, while he loves being a part of The Chase, he would pick stand-up comedy if he had to make the choice between one or the other.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
