Masked Singer star shares tactics for keeping identity secret

The Masked Singer's latest episode saw Rockhopper's real identity revealed, and the panel of professional guessers left shocked when the secret songster turned out to be Michelle Williams.

Early on in the instalment, Traffic Cone – now known to be Aled Jones – was booted out of the competition, but as next week's finale fast approaches, another confidential contestant had to go.

Having failed to outperform the likes of Panda, Robobunny and Mushroom, the Destiny's Child star wound up getting sent home. She's probably glad, though, as it means she won't have to keep fibbing to her loved ones in a desperate attempt to keep her involvement in the show under wraps.

"I was having to do the prayer of repentance every time somebody was asking what I was doing," Williams laughed, as she explained to This Morning hosts Alison Hammond and Holly Willoughby during a recent interview. "I was lying."

She went on to explain how different her approach was to the UK version, having already appeared on the US outing back in 2019, and that she was more concerned with deliberately throwing the audience off than she was with perfecting her pitch.

"The UK has been extremely wonderful to me and the ladies of Destiny's Child. And I was like, 'Anything for me to give back to the UK, I'm there'," Williams continued. "I was [nervous], because you're singing other people's songs and the first song that I did was one of my idols, mentors – not in person, but Whitney Houston.

"But I did her version of 'Higher Love' and I was definitely nervous, but at that point I was like, 'Have fun, have fun.'"

The Masked Singer series 3 finale will be broadcast this Saturday (February 12) on ITV. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
