Jeremy Kyle has broken his silence following ITV's decision to permanently drop his show.

The broadcaster announced on Wednesday (May 15) that The Jeremy Kyle Show would not return from a suspension ordered after the death of recent guest Steve Dymond.

Kyle released his first public comment hours after ITV also deleted the YouTube and social media accounts associated with his show — effectively erasing its official digital footprint.

"Myself and the production team are all utterly devastated," he told The Sun.

In its own statement explaining The Jeremy Kyle Show's cancellation, ITV reasoned that it simply could not proceed with the series due to "the gravity of recent events".

"The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end," the ITV statement read.

"Everyone at ITV's thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond. The previously announced review of the episode of the show is under way and will continue.

"ITV will continue to work with Jeremy Kyle on other projects."

Before axing the show full-scale, ITV announced that it would be reassessing The Jeremy Kyle Show's aftercare process, but insisted staff had adhered to a "significant and detailed duty of care".

In the wake of the controversy, viewers have also questioned whether ITV will move forward with the new series of Love Island since that show's former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis also both tragically died in the last year. The channel hasn't indicated any intentions to drop the series.
