Steven Moffat might be leaving Doctor Who in 2018 - but is Peter Capaldi going with him?

The news that Moffat will hand over showrunner duties to Chris Chibnall had led fans to speculate about Capaldi's own future with the BBC sci-fi series.

"I haven't made my mind up," he said. "I've been asked to stay on, which is lovely - and I think Chris Chibnall's fantastic and a wonderful choice.

"To be perfectly honest, it's so far away in the future… you know, Doctor Who is a a very difficult thing to say goodbye to - and I don't want to make that decision right now."

He reiterated: "They've asked me to stay on, so when I am forced to make that decision, I will make it. "

Whatever he decides, Capaldi will be shooting at least one more special - for Christmas 2016 - and a full series of Doctor Who for broadcast in 2017.

Even if he can't reveal exactly when filming begins...
