The third episode of Doctor Who was hailed as one of the best as the gang came back down to Earth to tell the story of Rosa Parks. In tonight's fourth episode (October 28) viewers were shot back into the realm of sci-fi.

With a title like 'Arachnids in the U.K.', it wasn't hard to guess which element of this instalment would cause fans to freak out.

The team quickly find themselves facing down a giant, eight-legged creature - and not a incy wincy one.

Giving Spider-Man a run for his money, the Doctor headed to a lab monitoring the unusual movements of a growing creepy crawly problem.

Apparently taking cues from nursery rhymes (which now seem far too innocent) these super space spiders don't just crawl up drainpipes, they crash through whole bathrooms taking one victim after another.

The new season of Doctor Who didn't shy away from the headlines of the moment. Nods were given to everything from Russian espionage to President Trump, environmental destruction to soulless business management. Robertson (played by Chris Noth, aka Sex and the City's Mr Big) became something of a recurring political baddie figure, planning his route to the White House whilst toting guns and referencing "fire and fury".

Even Stormzy became an unexpected pied piper for the Doctor, as the spiders were called to attention by some grime beats.

Despite the ever-expanding army of mutated arachnids appearing on screen, this episode appears to have been received with resounding applause.

The new cast, too, earned praise once again as they settled into their roles a little more and on the collective moniker 'Team Tardis'.
