Jenna Coleman stars as a depressed mother whose newborn baby goes missing in The Cry, the new BBC drama set to shred any nerves you've got left from last week's Bodyguard finale.

Premiering tonight (September 30) on BBC One, it sees Joanne (Coleman) and her husband travel to Australia, where they're to meet his ex-wife and daughter.

Once Down Under, Alistair (Ewen Leslie) wants to take his daughter back to Scotland and live with him. But before he can even try, their 3-month-old son goes missing and all hell breaks loose.

Subjected to the full glare of the media and justice system, Joanne is forced to fight back against the stress as clues to what happened are slowly drip-fed to a gripped audience.

But who took the baby? Is he dead? What happened afterwards? These are all questions you're probably dying to know the answers to — but you're just going to have to wait and find out.

"All this jumping around is very confusing," wrote one viewer.

"The new BBC drama #TheCry is jumping around far too often for my liking," said another. "Don't understand a thing of what's happening so far."

"Just don't get the flashbacks," added a third.

"15 minutes into #TheCry and I haven't a clue what's happening," commented a fourth.

The Cry returns on BBC One at 9pm next Sunday, October 7.
