The cast of BBC Three's upcoming factual drama Killed By My Debt has been announced, and Line of Duty's Craig Parkinson has jumped on board.

Similar to the channel's Murdered... series of programmes, Killed By My Debt will follow the tragic true story of Jerome Rogers, whose struggle with debt led him to take his own life.

Newcomer Chance Perdomo will play the 19-year-old motorbike courier Jerome, with Craig Parkinson starring as the unnamed 'Bailiff'.

Friday Night Dinner and Fresh Meat's Juliet Cowan will play Jerome's mum, Tracey.

The drama's director Joseph Bullman and writer Tahsin Guner worked closely with Jerome's family, as well as with the evidence given to the inquest into Jerome's death.

BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh said of the episode: "This drama is an incredibly important British story and a devastating examination of the damage wrought on one family by low income, unstable jobs and debt.

"It is an issue that affects many in the country, mainly young people, and I'm proud that BBC Three continues to bring thought-provoking, powerful storytelling to younger audiences."

Killed By My Debt will be available on BBC iPlayer from late May.
