The road to the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon stopped in London on Wednesday (February 7) for a barmy 90 minutes of sugar-sweet pop and wholesome comedy. (Inadvertent comedy or otherwise.)

Mel Giedroyc and Sweden's 2015 Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw introduced the country to six acts vying to represent the UK (and maybe not lose, for once) on the annual BBC Two special Eurovision: You Decide.

Throughout the night, six acts tried to woo voters with their breathless pop, but in the end, it was Eurovision veteran SuRie who topped the leaderboard when the 50-50 split of viewers' votes and an expert jury's decision were combined.

As mentioned, SuRie has actually performed at the Eurovision Song Contest previously, as a back-up singer for Belgian acts Loïc Nottet and Blanche over the last few years.

Asked by Mel how she'd be celebrating her You Decide victory, SuRie quipped: "A bottle of something bubbly and a straw."

Support for SuRie was overwhelming both in the arena and on social media might we actually have a winner on our hands this year? Or at least someone who'll come higher than Lucie Jones's 15th place finish last year?

The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will air its finals on BBC One on May 12, 2018, with Graham Norton covering all of the highlights (and lowlights) live from Lisbon. Listen to SuRie's full track 'Storm' below:
