The BBC's hugely-popular drama The A Word concluded its second series this evening (December 12), and fans are already desperate for a third.
The show, which stars Christopher Eccleston, follows the Hughes family as they come to terms with their young son Joe's autism diagnosis and the daily trials of family life.
Today's finale was full of The A Word's usual bittersweet charm and had tears and laughs aplenty as Joe performed a poem at a school show with his whole family right beside him.
As to be expected, The A Word's finale has received rave reviews from fans, who are full of praise for the show's touching portrayal of autism and the autistic spectrum.
Hailing the 'great writing and outstanding performances', one viewer congratulated the Peter Bowker-penned series for its "brilliant" portrayal of autism. "Series 3 please," they added.

While others thanked the show for raising awareness of 'such an important issue' with sensitivity and respect.

Unsurprisingly, there was also a lot of love for Christopher Eccleston and his character Maurice, Joe's stubborn but totally soft granddad.
"[Christopher Eccleston's] performance as Maurice has been on another planet," one fan wrote, with another concurring: "Christopher Eccleston is a legend.
"Another series next year please!"
