Prime Minister Theresa May has delivered a live TV statement to call for an early General Election on June 8.
The announcement took place outside her official residence, 10 Downing Street, immediately after a meeting with her Cabinet.

Before the news, the media had been sent into a frenzy over what the statement outside Number 10 could mean for the United Kingdom.
The last time May spoke to the country outside the iconic Number 10 door was following her succession of David Cameron as PM, while Cameron had used the setting to confirm his resignation.
