It's an unofficial requirement that the Red Nose Day musical guest has to kiss one of the hosts, but Ed Sheeran got more than he bargained for this year.

The singer dropped by the O2 Arena tonight (March 24) to help raise a bit of cash by playing 'What Do I Know?' (and stumbling slightly on his romantic track), but it was the post-performance turn that resulted in the real story.

Just as presenter Rob Beckett was trying to wrap up the segment, the night's roving host Miranda Hart turned up demanding to fulfil one of Red Nose Day's unwritten rules.

"What's going on is that I'm not sure that Ed knows the Comic Relief rules," Miranda interrupted.

"There's a silly rule, but I always stick by them, and what it is – is that it demands that the musical acts have to kiss with passion and considerable meaning the tallest host."

Enter from backstage special guest Greg Davies, who is just a smidge taller Miranda. You know what that means:

"That was out of line in a major way," exclaimed Miranda. "It's the tallest female host that gets a kiss!"

Ask and you shall receive! With lips still sparkling from his smooch with pop's dreamiest singer-songwriter, Greg Davies once again dove in with a smooch - for Miranda.

All this Comic Relief kissing definitely left everyone at home shook:

There's yet more of Ed to come, as he teams up with the cast of People Just Do Nothing to crank up Kurupt FM with this year's Comic Relief charity single:

Hopefully they keep their hands to themselves.
