We already know that Samuel L Jackson would love to bag a role in the upcoming season of Peaky Blinders, but that honour has actually gone to another American actor in the form of Oscar winner Adrien Brody.

BBC Two has confirmed that The Pianist actor will appear in the fourth season of the gangster drama, alongside current series regulars Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Paul Anderson.

"It's fantastic to have Adrien join our team," said the show's creator Steven Knight.

"He genuinely was the actor in my head when I wrote the part. I'm sure he will be a formidable presence in the world of the Peaky Blinders."

Adrien joined filming in Liverpool last week, and while the BBC is yet to reveal Brody's role, it's thought he may play the show's next villain.

The third season of Peaky Blinders saw Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) reveal the shock news that the family were to be arrested, and The Sun reports Brody's character could be the man responsible for putting them behind bars.

Nevertheless, these on-set pictures seem to suggest a different fate for the family, so gaze upon at your peril.

Peaky Blinders was met with great acclaim when it premiered back in 2013, and is still going strong.

In fact, bosses are so confident of the show's appeal, a fifth season has been confirmed before the fourth has even aired.

The fourth run will be directed by David Caffrey (Line of Duty) and is expected to drop in late 2017, so we reckon Brody best brush up on that Brummie accent, and fast.

Peaky Blinders airs on BBC Two in the UK and Netflix in the US.
