As The Nightly Show stretches into its fourth week of a divisive trial run, there's been yet another opportunity for the ITV late-night series to find its footing.

The hosting duties were handed over again (as they are each week) on Monday to Dermot O'Leary, king of The X Factor and ITV's choice to take over the BRITs along with Emma Willis once original host Michael Bublé dropped out for well-documented personal reasons.

To its credit, The Nightly Show clearly spared no expense for Dermot's first night by bringing in comedy titans Catherine Tate and Ruby Wax. Ruby even dished the dirt on her infamous interview with US president Donald Trump:

There's no doubting Dermot's effortless charm, but was it enough to win over very tetchy Nightly Show viewers? Here's how they took to him on night one:

Surprise, surprise: not everyone is on board.

Overall, that's a pretty positive reception for Dermot. Some good word of mouth could certainly go a long way in reversing the ITV late-night experiment's rollercoaster ratings.

For those who enjoyed Dermot, they have an entire week with him (with plenty of dancing, we hope!). To the less satisfied, take comfort in knowing one week from tonight you'll have new host Gordon Ramsay to slice and dice late-night comedy.
