It was a huge night for Strictly Come Dancing, Call the Midwife and Gogglebox at the 22nd annual National Television Awards.

Dermot O'Leary and an A-list group of the UK's biggest TV stars celebrated the best in drama, comedy, reality and chat at the The O2 in London on Wednesday (January 25).

Although the Saturday night ratings battle between the BBC and ITV is still going strong, the Beeb scored a big win at the NTAs as Strictly pipped both Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor to the Talent Show award.

The TV Judge category also went to the BBC in a bittersweet victory, as Mary Berry accepted the NTA for her final series on The Great British Bake Off.

When Bake Off makes its big move over to Channel 4 later this year, it will do so without Mary and presenters Mel & Sue. However, veteran judge Paul Hollywood is sticking around the tent.

"I'm thrilled," Mary said as she took to the stage to accept the TV Judge trophy. "Nobody is ever smaller than me, and look at these little treasures. I love judging, it has always been a great honour and I think I know how to bake."

"And I love telling people next time, do a bit better. The greatest reward is young people are baking," she added. "It's the best programme and I am so grateful, thank you very much."

ITV scored a huge win in the Challenge Show category, as I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! fended off stiff competition from Love Island, MasterChef, The Apprentice and The Great British Bake Off to win the TV equivalent of a Bushtucker Trial.

I'm a Celebrity's Ant & Dec triumphed once again for Best TV Presenter for the 16th year running, although they definitely had a 2-1 advantage over rivals Gary Lineker (Match of the Day), James Corden (The Late Late Show), Mel & Sue (The Great British Bake Off) and Rylan Clark-Neal (This Morning).

Casualty followed in the footsteps of Downton Abbey and Doctor Who with a huge win for Best Drama, an impressive feat since it's technically regarded as a soap.

The long-running Casualty's major upset was scored over international hits Cold Feet, Game of Thrones, Happy Valley and Golden Globes darling The Night Manager.

However, Happy Valley got a bit of revenge when Sarah Lancashire toppled Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager), Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) and Jenna Coleman (Victoria) for Top Drama Performance.

Feel-good series Call the Midwife scooped up a victory for the 1960s as Best Period Drama over the turn-of-the-century mob grittiness of Peaky Blinders, the 18th century romance of Poldark, Netflix's retro horror hit Stranger Things and the stunning majesty of Victoria.

Mrs Brown's Boys will carry some huge momentum into its upcoming variety series with a Best Comedy win against Benidorm, Orange is the New Black and The Big Bang Theory here at the NTAs.

It was a big night in the soaps categories as well, as Emmerdale beat Coronation Street, EastEnders and Hollyoaks to become Best Serial Drama, Albert Square favourite Lacey Turner won Serial Drama Performance, and Corrie's Faye Brookes took Newcomer of the Year.

When Digital Spy and other media caught up with Lacey, she admitted her victory caught her by surprise: "I was so sure I was staying in my seat, it was a bit of a shock.

"It's so lovely to be supported for 12 years and to be able to go away and come back and still have the same amount of love is phenomenal. I'm so lucky."

Other major winners included Gogglebox for Factual Entertainment, Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway for Entertainment Programme and This Morning for Live Magazine Show.
