Billy Connolly was presented with this year's Special Recognition Award at the NTAs by Dustin Hoffman.

A host of famous names paid tribute to the comedian, who arrived on stage wearing his very best tartan trousers.

He turned his attention to Peter Kay, who previously mentioned him when picking up his own award earlier this evening.

"Peter Kay. He should have given me that thing – you cheapo. See how he dedicated it to me and then took it away? Bastard."

Kay quickly decided Connolly's need was greater than his and immediately went up to the stage and handed over his own NTA award.

"Limelight grabber," Connolly quipped as he took the gong.

He finished off his speech by thanking the talented crop of British comedians and leaving to a standing ovation.
