The BBC has confirmed the cast for Aimee Lou Wood's Manchester-set drama Film Club, with Vigil's Suranne Jones among those joining.

First announced earlier this year, the project – which has been co-written by Wood and House of the Dragon's Ralph Davis – focuses on two friends called Evie and Noa who are part of a film club.

However, when one of them gets a job offer on the other side of the country, the pair are forced to face the fact that they may have deeper feelings.

The broadcaster has now confirmed that filming has begun, with Jones joining the cast as Evie's (Wood) eccentric mother Suz, while Kaos' Nabhaan Rizwan will play Noa.

Happy Valley's Adam Long will portray Evie’s boyfriend Josh, while The Serpent Queen's Liv Hill will play her sister, Izzie, and Davis will star as new Film Club member Dominic.

The series follows Evie in the midst of a "wobble", having not left the house in six months, with Film Club on a Friday her only means of escape.

However, one Friday proves transformational as Noa reveals he's landed his dream job on the other side of the country, and the pair are forced to consider that they may be more than just friends.

Evie must also navigate her eccentric family life, living alongside her loving mum and handsome boyfriend Josh.

"I’m thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing for the past decade, starts shooting this week," Wood said.

"We couldn’t be more excited, and grateful, to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC. To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour."

Jones added: "I’ve loved Aimee for a while now and think she is a beautifully real, honest and brilliantly funny talent, so it was no surprise the script she and Ralph Davis have created was the same.

"It’s smart, sweet and punchy. I can’t wait to be her tiger mum... and I get to film in my home town too."

Film Club will air on BBC Three and iPlayer in 2025.
