Miranda Hart has revealed she has recently gotten married, describing the life event as “lovely.”

The comedian, best known for her semi-autobiographical sitcom Miranda, appeared opposite Alex Jones and Alex Scott on The One Show to promote her new memoir, I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You.

During the interview, the comedian – who has also starred in Call the Midwife – shared that she had recently wed, confirming the news by moving a sparkly ring onto her ring finger as she quipped: “Somebody has put a ring on it.

“Yay for me – I’m married!” she continued. “I got married at 51 [years of age]. It’s just so lovely. I’d written Gary [Preston] for on-screen Miranda, and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person.”

Miranda also shared that her relationship would form an "undercurrent" in her upcoming memoir, though wouldn’t divulge the details of how the couple met as it was a "little bit of a twist", adding that her husband was her "best friend" and the "best fun".

The comedian also spoke in wider detail about her book, sharing: “I really hope people read it and see what they can get from all I discovered and learned, but I suppose [I want readers] to have hope.

“The fact that I met somebody during a pandemic and chronic illness, where I couldn’t get out of bed or the house – I really wanted to meet somebody, and I admitted that to myself – is not some sort of romcom story, but hope. Whatever situation you’re in, there really is hope that things do change.”

The comedian was also asked what she had planned following the release of the memoir, with the star sharing that she was “keen” to get back to some “silliness”, adding that she “missed the studio floor and laughter” but was waiting for “ideas to percolate through” her head.

The One Show isn’t the only interview that Miranda will have this week, with the comedian set to answer more questions about her memoir on Friday (October 11) when she appears on The Graham Norton Show.

I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You is released on October 10.
