David Mitchell has addressed the possibility of a second season of his new BBC murder mystery Ludwig.
Mitchell plays the reclusive puzzle-setter turned reluctant murder detective John 'Ludwig' Taylor, starring alongside Anna Maxwell Martin as his sister-in-law Lucy.
As the six-part series wraps up – without delving into spoiler territory – the show leaves the door open to the possibility that there could be more of the BBC drama.

At a Q&A ahead of the show's release, Mitchell said the cast and creatives behind the drama were optimistic there would be a second season of Ludwig.
"That's certainly our hope, that it'll carry on," Mitchell said. "Fingers crossed."

Mitchell also spoke about why he was drawn to the show and the role of John, saying he has "always loved" murder mysteries, specifically those in the cosy crime sub-genre.
"Some of my happiest viewing memories are as a child watching Miss Marple with Joan Hickson – I mean, she was in it, she wasn't in the room," he joked.

"I think when it can have a comic spin as well, that's even better, because I like a murder mystery puzzle, a whodunnit, but I don't love watching things that are horrific and gritty and sort of remind you of the frailty of human life.
"I go with the Agatha Christie route: the person that was murdered, we don't meet them, we're not invested in them, so it's fine. Agatha Christie's very good, kill an old colonel and the backstory is nobody liked him, so we can push aside what it means for a human life to be taken away.
"Just use it to make a puzzle seem a little bit more interesting than if it was a snatched handbag."
Ludwig is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and airs weekly on BBC One.
