Doctor Who stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson have teased details of the cameos from Strictly Come Dancing duo Shirley Ballas and Johannes Radebe.

Gatwa and Gibson will embark on their first collection of adventures as the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday, respectively, when the new series gets underway next month, with their travels taking them to many different locations.

The second episode, ‘The Devil’s Chord’, sees the duo dance alongside the head judge and professional dancer, with Gatwa and Gibson teasing the experience during a Q+A event ahead of the series launch.

“I just remember reading [episode two] Devil's Chord and getting the biggest goosebumps,” said Gibson. "It just seemed like this incredible episode, and I was like, wait, we dance with Johannes and Shirley from Strictly, okay.

“It's just the craziest thing, and it was crazy to film it, but it was just equally as special. That day we were dancing with them, we had a ball. We had so much fun. [Dancing] wasn't included in the audition process, let's just say.”

“We had an amazing choreographer, Jack Murphy, who just whipped us into shape with such kindness and intention,” added Gatwa. “He made the choreography accessible to us through an acting standpoint, so that was really cool. We've had a lot of help – we couldn't sing and dance.”

Gatwa, who has also starred in Sex Education and Barbie, recently spoke about the prospect of gaining another companion for the second series in the form of Varada Sethu, saying: “We’re all really hot.

“No, it’s fun, it’s been such an amazing energy, dynamic into the TARDIS, and there’s three of us now, so you’re safe, everyone! Safe at home,” he continued, with Gibson adding: “It’s a really hot TARDIS.”

Doctor Who will return for its 14th series on May 11 at midnight, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
