Louis Theroux has unveiled his new "temporary tattoo" eyebrows, amid his battle with alopecia.

The interviewer and broadcaster has been candid about the condition over the last few months, documenting his experiences on social media.

Alopecia is a chronic inflammatory condition which affects hair follicles and leads to hair loss, although there are lots of different types, of varying severity.

In December, Theroux revealed that he had shaved off his eyebrows to combat the hair loss, and now he has shared on Instagram an update about his eyebrows, alongside some photos of his new look.

He wrote: "I realise there are much bigger things to worry about in the world but… a while ago I shared that my eyebrows had basically disappeared due to alopecia. I received a lot of nice messages, some suggesting I try ‘microblading’, a form of temporary tattoo. So that’s what I did!

"It took two sessions of a couple of hours. I’m happy to have my old face back. The new brows are neater and more shapely than my ‘real’ ones were. But there are a couple of wisps of my remaining hair in there which help made them to look more natural."

Theroux went on to highlight another struggle he was experiencing, and said: "Meanwhile more gaps – or ‘lesions’ to use the technical term – have appeared on my scalp. I have photos of those which I may share at some point or I may not – they are a bit weird and depressing to look at tbh.

"Life goes on. I am happy and healthy in every other way and I feel very grateful."

In November, he asked for advice about managing the condition on his social media, in a post that he captioned: "I’d like to know how I’m supposed to continue a career based largely on raising and lowering different eyebrows WITHOUT ANY EYEBROWS!!"

DJ Annie Mac was one of the people to suggest microblading in the comments section, and on Theroux’s latest post she wrote, "Amazing! They look great Louis!"
