ITV has confirmed a release date for season three of Professor T – and it's sooner than you might think.

The broadcaster announced the official premiere date over on Twitter/X today (March 13), revealing that the hit crime drama will return for its third season on March 27 at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.

It also shared a new still showing Ben Miller's titular character dressed in prison attire, with Professor T having been arrested in the season two finale for firing an unlicensed gun in a police station.

The official synopsis for the new season reads: "Set against the stunning backdrop of one of the world’s most prestigious educational institutions, Cambridge University, the next season of the multi-awarded crime drama will see Professor T banged up in prison and with his career on the line as he is forced to make a momentous decision.

"The formidable duo of Jasper’s mother, Adelaide and his therapist Dr Helena will be on hand to offer their own unique brand of support."

Frances de la Tour will reprise her role as Adelaide in season three, while Juliet Stevenson returns as Dr. Helena.

Meanwhile, it was announced last month that Professor T has also been renewed for a fourth season, which will see the character pursue an unexpected musical interest while his mum pursues a new romance.

Season four will also star former Casualty actor Sunetra Sarker as DI Maiya Goswami, who will take control of the police force.

"There's nothing out there quite like Professor T, with its unique mix of complex crimes and captivating characters, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Cambridge; the central enigma being the Professor himself… a mystery I hope to investigate for many seasons to come," Miller said in a statement.

Professor T season three will premiere on ITV and ITVX at 9pm on March 27.
