ITV has confirmed that Miller and de la Tour will both be returning for season four, alongside fellow regulars Juliet Stevenson (Wolf) as therapist Helena Goldberg and Barney White (Ellie & Natasia) as detective Dan Winters. This new season was confirmed before the third outing had even premiered.

In these new episodes, Professor T pursues an unexpected musical interest while his mum Adelaide has a romance on the horizon. Dr Goldberg has challenges of her own as she tests the line between her professional and personal responsibilities.

Former Casualty star Sunetra Sarker will have a major role in the fourth season when her character DI Maiya Goswami takes control of the police force.

"There's nothing out there quite like Professor T, with its unique mix of complex crimes and captivating characters, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Cambridge; the central enigma being the Professor himself… a mystery I hope to investigate for many seasons to come," Miller said.

Executive producer Jo McGrath added: "Professor T's unique mix of clever cases, compelling series arcs and an outstanding cast of warm, memorable characters have proven to be a big hit with audiences around the world."
