Maisie Williams has revealed that she would “love” to reprise her role as Ashildr in Doctor Who.

The star played the character in four episodes during series nine, making her last appearance in 2015’s ‘Hell Bent’ opposite Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.

With the BBC show now entering a new era following the return of showrunner Russell T Davies and the casting of Ncuti Gatwa, Williams revealed to Collider that she wouldn’t be against reprising her role as the immortal Viking.

“Yeah, potentially!,” she replied when asked about a return. “I’d love to work with Ncuti, that would be so cool. I actually had never even [thought] about it.

"People are always asking me about Arya [Stark from Game of Thrones) – no one asks me about Ashildr. So maybe! I would love that, that would be cool.”

The BBC show is due to return later this year as Gatwa continues his adventures following his full debut in ‘The Church on Ruby Road’, with the star revealing to Digital Spy and other media what he wanted to bring to the role.

“It's such a hard question to answer because the role of The Doctor is everything anyway," said Gatwa. “They're an explorer that has been around for a billion years, and so they have so many quirks and intricacies in life.

“[They have] rage and joy, and they're just full of the whole kaleidoscope of emotions. So, to pick what I was going to bring out differently is a very hard question. I guess just myself. My Black and beautiful self.”

Gatwa had previously made his debut as the Time Lord in the trilogy of specials to commemorate the show’s 60th anniversary, which saw David Tennant and Catherine Tate reprise their roles from Davies’ previous era.

Doctor Who will return for its 14th series in May, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
