Trigger Point season two spoilers follow.

Trigger Point season three has not been announced. That doesn't mean we can't be hopeful for its return, especially after that gripping second outing. Season two raised the bar and just when you thought Lana Washington (Vicky McClure) couldn't be put through worse, the show upped the ante.

In some ways though, it feels like we're only scratching the surface of how murky her world truly is – so surely there'll be more, right?

Here's everything we know about Trigger Point's possible third season.

Trigger Point season 3 potential release date: When's it on?

Trigger Point season three will likely be back in January 2025. If it follows a similar production schedule as seasons one and two, the key word being 'similar'.

Season one came out in January 2022, but there was a two-year wait between seasons with the latest season debuting in January 2024.

What to Read Next

January definitely seems to be shaping up to be Trigger Point season – and as there is still such hunger for more high-tension EXPO drama we can't imagine the powers that be would make us wait another two years.

We do understand that making things go bang time and time again must take some very technical post-production skills. So with that in mind, a year's turnaround could be ambitious. It's possible fans could be waiting until spring 2025 for a third instalment.

It's also worth bearing in mind that a Trigger Point season three renewal still hasn't been announced, but that's no reason to despair just yet.

It's early days, with the crime drama's second season having only just returned on January 28. The season two renewal news came in March 2022, so we'll be keeping a lookout for good news during the spring.

The Trigger Point season 3 cast: Who will be coming back?

Vicky McClure will undoubtedly return to the role of Lana Washington if the show comes back – and we can't wait for more of her straight-talking, steely yet charming demeanour.

She'll likely be joined by her right-hand man Danny (Eric Shango) and the third leg of their EXPO team Hass (Nabil Elouahabi).

Sadly DI Thomas Youngblood has gone down the same route as 'Nut' and Billy in season one. Yes, he bit the big one, which means Mark Stanley will not be reprising his role.

The same is true of Kris Hitchen's John Hudson, but no-one's crying over that character.

The remaining notable cast members who survived and are likely to return for season three are:

• Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan
• Julian Ovenden as Commander John Francis
• Kerry Godliman as Sonya Reeves
• Kevin Eldon as Jeff Washington
• Tamzin Griffin as Val Washington

The Trigger Point season 3 plot: What will happen?

The season three plot has been kept under wraps, but with a new season comes a new terror threat.

Season two's criminal gang known as the Wave have been quashed, which leaves room for a new big bad to slip in and cause mayhem.

That aside, the latest season saw Lana go through some huge character growth. For the first time, we saw her break down under the weight and stress of her job in a way we never have before.

This allowed her to be more open, more vulnerable and heal a little by simply laying bare her pain with her loved ones.

She's far from fixed though and she'll likely go on a steeper emotional journey as she processes the loss of her love Thom in the coming season.

If Ovenden's Commander Francis, does come back the show will likely continue to explore their dynamic and themes of sexism within the workplace further.
